Hello again everyone, I joined in January of this year and thank you all for the information supplied. I have just received an offer on my property and I am hoping to be moving to Spain as soon as border open and my sale proceeds.  I was wondering if the following senorio may be a possibility. I am looking for transport for myself and my small border collie dog and boxes of personal possession from UK to Guardamar area, has anyone done this, I would be happy to go by ferry or via France.

If this is not a possibility can you rent a van self drive and cross borders and drop van off at a dedicated location upon arrival.

I would be happy to receive any other options My only other option would be to buy a van and then sell it when I arrive.

I thank everyone in advance of replies and I do hope you can help me resolve this dilemma.

We used these guys in June 2017

https://www.way2gohire.com/home/

Our self-drive Luton cost £1500 in total (van hire, ferry, fuel, hotel etc).

We turned the van in near the old San Javier airport.

Hi,

We moved over here in March this year and we had removals in for our house furniture but needed to drive down with our rescue greyhound as no other options were suitable for him as he is very nervous! Plus other various boxes of “stuff” and a king sized bed.

We used J Hire one way can hire from UK to Spain (www.j-hire.co.uk)

They are based in Southampton, you can collect van from there but they also can deliver van to anywhere in UK (for a fee) provided close to a railway station for driver to get back home again.

We had looked at way 2 go van hire but told they had stopped doing one way hire.

We picked up van in Lincoln on Thursday morning (Peugeot boxer, medium wheel base, a couple of years old) and drove down to Portsmouth Friday and got ferry 5pm, arrived Santander Saturday evening and drove straight down to Costa Blanca arriving 3am (2 drivers)

Returned the van to Alicante on the Tuesday  - all in all cost £888 including extra driver and insurance, they were more than happy that we were transporting a dog.

We were lucky to get a pet friendly cabin, dog stayed in the room with us. It appears these are booked up a long time in advance but we got a cancellation. Brittany ferries also have kennels on board, they also provide a dedicated pet exercise area so you can take pet for weeks and poos with excellent facilities for hosing down area afterwards.

We have already recommended J hire to someone who said they were very pleased with the service.

I hope this helps, please let me know if there is anything I have left out.

Good luck with your journey, we found ours uneventful and exciting - all seems a bit of a blur now, as we went straight into lockdown the week after we arrived.

Regards

Paddy
