Can anyone recommend: Plumber / gas boiler repairs

I wonder if anyone can help we have stopped getting hot water to our kitchen tap, we have a new bottle of gas and i have replaced the batteries on the boiler. However if I turn the hot water tap on in the down stairs toilet or the bathroom then the gas boiler ignites and we get hot water. Before i call out a plumber or gas boiler repair man I just want to check to see if anyone knows what the problem might be.
