I am wondering if someone can advise on a question regarding British National Insurance Contribution. My wife and I plan to become permanent residents here both of us taking early retirement. However my wife is only 50 I would like to know if she will still be able to make class 3 national Insurance contributions to give her a full state UK pension once she reaches state pension age.

Hi

If you are keeping a UK bank account then your wife may be able to set up a Direct Debit to pay the NI contributions.

TBH your best option is to ring the pension people in the Uk, they are the ones with all the knowledge you need and I have found them very helpful. The number is easily found with a bit of Googling.

I think you can pay class 3. I came across the following whilst looking for something else:

These tables explain who’s eligible to pay Class 2 or Class 3 contributions.

Living abroad but not working:

Class 3 - but only if at some point you’ve lived in the UK continuously for 3 years and paid 3 years of contributions
