Hi all, we are really think about moving to Hondon De Las Nieves and have been wondering what that area is like? Is there a good expat community there and shops etc and maybe a U3a?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi. Myrtle & Alistair here. We lived in Hondon de las frailes just next village along from Nieves. It was a wonderful place to live great expat village. Walking groups English restaurants and cafes. Made very welcome by the locals. Viente Ocho is our fav restaurant and As we now live in San Miguel de salinas  we often travel inland and go to have lunch there. The reason we sold our house (with lots of land) it was lovely! To come down nearer the coast is because it was very cold in the winter in the Hondon valley and we always spent so much time in the car heading to the coast with it’s great shopping and beaches especially when we had friends staying  so we decided to move a bit inland but nearer the coast. I think we have the best of both worlds here. A lovely little Spanish village with many expats and 15 mins from the beach. So there you have it!!  Really it depends on what you want and the lifestyle you would like. But we spent many a happy time in Hondon  de las Neives and have great memories. We still drive up there to visit old haunts!   Either way bring here in Spain is amazing x

Hi Chrissy Myrtle here!  Yes it always a few degrees cooler in hondon valley. Beautiful in the summer with a nice little breeze running through the valley. But in the winter(we are just retired and wanted to stay most of the year) that few degrees makes a big difference!!   As for shopping the nearest Mercadona is in Albatera  but there are a few little shops that are great. And a thriving market in Nieves on Saturday.  There are great charities there especially for dogs (we got a rescue dog from there. He’s an amazing dog) they also have a charity shop for dogs in Nieves which is very popular and they are always looking for volunteers also shop for cats in Frailes.  I hope that answers your questions if you have any more just fire them at me!  It is a lovely place to live. Friendly country people. Fresh air and hospitality and not far from Alicante airport. Have fun making your decisions 😎
