We are hoping to move to Spain next year, how long can I drive Spain , if I have to swap my license what does the test consist of ?

Once you become Spanish resident you have up to 6 months to exchange your licence or take/pass a Spanish driving test.

AFAIK the test consists of a theory test, that can be taken in English, and a practical test which will be carried out in Spanish.

I don't think that the OP will have the option to exchange their licence and will need to take a Spanish driving test.

The driving licence swap arrangements post Brexit are still being hammered out between the two governments. It would be worth following Gov.UK Living in Spain where you will receive regular e mail updates on all issues like driving, residency and health etc.
