Hi everyone,  I have had a car on a friend's driveway for over a year whilst I've had to return to UK because of Brexit. I now have my Visa and will be returning but I'm unsure how I pay the car tax, I've had no notifications sent but I will be in arrears in assuming.   Does anyone know where I go to pay this so I'm up to date?  Am I allowed to drive it to this place? (it will obviously insured).  Same with driving to get the ITV is it legal?? Thanks for any help.  Cheers

Once the ITV has run out it is not legal to drive on the roads. You would need to get a Grua (tow truck) to take it to the testing station.

Some say if you make an appointment you would be allowed to drive to that appointment but there is nothing laid down to say you can do that, If you were stopped it may depend on whether the policeman who stopped you has been having a good day or not.

Re the car tax then go to this site Car Tax and see if there are any outstanding years. You can either pay on line or go to the SUMA office closest to you to pay it and sort it out. If there are any fines for late payment, I'm not sure it can be paid online and you may have to go in person (with someone giving you a lift, obviously).

The maximum penalty for driving without an ITV is €200 reduced to €100 if paid within 21 days, cheaper than a guru!

Just like with a UK MOT there are no points deducted (presumably you still have a UK licence anyway) nor will it invalidate your insurance.

For anything to do with driving in Spain take a look at the N332 website.   It is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil.   On the site there is an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.
