Hi

I bought a house in Pego and come out pretty often but find that there isn't too many English speaking in town and don't know enough Spanish to hold conversations. So l am looking to make friends in other places ( even if it's just coffee and a chat) just to break up the routine.

I am out on the 30 th of May til 8 th of June and hope someone will spare some time just to keep me sane.

Many thanks if you reply.

Linda

Hi Linda,

We live in Adsubia but spend a lot of time in Pego as we have friends who have an apartment at the 'green paradise' complex. You will find plenty of English speaking folk in the town all year round but even more so in the summer months of course. A good place to meet folk is the Casino Bar in the centre of town. All of the staff are excellent and most of them speak English and may be able to introduce you to other Ex Pats. If you are looking to learn Spanish Anna runs the Wild Boar language school just off the market square by the Casino Bar. Again the staff inside should be able to keep you right and introduce you. We are back in the UK for an extended period at the moment so are unable to say hi in person. Good Luck, hope this helps. Colin & Diane.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Have been down the Casino bar a few times and hear other English folk there but didn't want to look like a nutter and just go up to people and start talking to them.l will go down and talk to the staff thought and see where it gets me. Thanks anyway and maybe next you's are back over and myself, l could maybe buy you's a coffee at the Casino to say thanks.

Cheers Colin and Diane

Hi Linda, I will not be about then but are you on face book? Apply to join Javea Connect if you are, it can take a week for your request to be actioned but it is all free and worth a look. Another thing you might consider doing is joining Y3A, I know they are very active in Javea and there are lots of things gojng on all the time, so it is not a matter of turning up at the same thing every week, you can drop in and out of the whole thing. Hope that helps a bit, Janie

Hi,

I think you mean the U3A. Well worth looking into. They hold regular meetings and the majority are English speaking. Trips and other meetings are arranged. I think it costs €10 a year membership.

Look at U3A website for your nearest group..... designed for people over 55, mainly retired but still full of energy.  May be Denia.  Lots of activity groups.  Also amateur dramatics...Oliva, Javea Players etc. have social gatherings.  Take a dog for a walk from the dog shelter?  Other people will be there to meet and walk with.  Karla Darocas, Canadian fine arts degree, organises trips to local historic sites and does talks on painters, architecture, local history etc.  Look at her website, Spainlifestyle.  Expats in Spain have all been in the same position....meeting new people, so do not be afraid to go up to them in the Casino Bar and ask about local English speaking activities, local fiestas etc, It is a very friendly place.
