Is there maybe a minimum amount that attracts this extra charge? Is the extra charge a fixed amount of a percentage of your bill?

Ours is a holiday home and so our monthly bill is usually about 14 euros a month when we are not there.  Weve just returned from a two week stay and it incrreased to 35 euros which was about what we were expecting as we had the fans on a lot. Ive had quite a few messages from Iberdrola over ...

...the last year or so saying not to worry their charges are not increasing so this is a bit confusing, just wondering if we are suddenly going to get hit with it.  Are these extra charges being added every month or just as a one off?

Thanks Julie

Apparently they will be charged every month until next May and can fluctuate but only some of us are paying it. It appears that those on fixed tariffs do not have to pay?

Hi Jacqui,

That is correct.  Like Geoffro, I'm on a fixed contract, "Plan Noche", until 2026.  When Iberdrola announced the gas surcharge to be added to bills, they wrote to me to say that they would continue to honour my contract until its expiry date.  The surcharge is linked to consumption, so that is why you were told the cost can fluctuate.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you for the replies, We are on a fixed tariff so that must be why we have not been billed so far.

Thanks

Julie

It depends on what contract you signed up to. But I am afraid it is too late now to change.

I always keep an eye on Iberdrola website. This gas charge was introduced by the Spanish government to offset the losses suffered by Iberdrola for buying gas on the open market to produce electricity. Thankfully I am on a fixed five year contract that has a couple of years to run so are not subje...

We are also on a fixed five year contract and I assure you we are paying the gas charges!!!

Hi Stephanie,

But which contract are you on and, most importantly, when did you sign up to it?

Kind regards,

Kim

Strange isn’t it. It can’t just be added to bills at random there must be a formula surely?!

It is calculated pro rata on the number of kWh of power you have used, so that you pay a sum for the gas used to generate your consum

Hi Stephanie,

So you're on the Regulated rate, which explains the higher bills, but at least you haven't signed up for it in the last 6 months, as that would see you paying the gas surcharge too.

Our neighbours are on the Regulated rate too.  We have the same size property on the same size plot, both with private pools; the only difference is that ours is a house and their's is a bungalow.  Our Iberdrola bill for September was €97.02, theirs for the same period was €228.12.  We're on Plan Noche and they've been on the Regulated tariff since October last year, so they don't pay the gas surcharge either.  They haven't used significantly more kWh than us, so it demonstrates how expensive the Regulated rate has become 🤔

Kind regards,

Kim
