Hi

You may want to consider La Nucia, Polop, Finestrat if they don’t mind a bus ride to the seaside. Best for your parents would be a town called L’Alfàs del Pi which is very close to LAlbir and Altea beaches 10-20 minutes by bus depending on which beach. It is cheap enough for a lovely property yet still has traditional Spanish cuisine and shops.

Ok we will look into Denia, i suspect it would be cheaper to buy property there than javea?

thanks

I have got a flat in Denia and it's a great place . Busy all year round and very Spanish without many expats.  You can get a coach from Alicante airport straight to the town centre for about €18. It has great transport links and is a UNESCO city of gastronomy so you are certain to get top quality food at reasonable prices .

Denia is beautiful, busy all year with amazing food.  Definitely worth a look, we had a smaller budget 12 months ago and had options

Your parents should look at Jalon, Lliber, Alcalali slightly inland but only 15 minutes from Calpe and a little further to Denia and Javea. Very easy drive to airport and if you come for weekends there is a bus service from airport. I tell you this because these villages still retain the Spanish  culture they are looking for. Lots going on if they want to join in or some lovely little bars restaurants if they just want to embrace their retirement. And always people here ready to help who speak their language. I have lived in Jalon for 34 years and would not wish to be anywhere else. I hope this helps and at least you will make a visit before you decide

Just re-read the description of your parents and I'm even more convinced that the Jalon Valley is the place for them.. their knowledge of the language will endear them to the locals who love to speak to anyone who understands them. Another major factor is we have Denia Hospital on our doorstep if they should need it.  As retired people (I assume) they would have the right to all health services and residencia should they decide to stay permanently.  I hope you all find what you want.

Hi guys,

My mum and dad are looking to buy a holiday home, mainly to use during winter to get away from the Irish rain!

we are looking somewhere Costa Blanca/Alicante that is still very traditional Spanish, with lots of local bars and restaurants and that is still open during winter when they would be using the apartment.

price wise we have 200k euro all in for the right property, hoping for a 2 bed with a good balcony.

We are trying to avoid areas full of Irish and English bars, they have spent their lives in these bars and want somewhere as Spanish as possible. Both speak decent Spanish and have been learning regularly.

they had been looking at the Costa de sol but are now more interested in Costa brava / Alicante.

All help so greatly appreciated!!

Los Alcazares, old town, would be perfect. Close to Corvera airport (Murcia International), serviced by Ryanair. You could get an awsome home for your budget. Just moved close by. The Mar Menor is beautiful.

Just adding to the Denia recommendations, i have stayed in many places all over the Costa Del Sol, Denia is one of my favourites for the real Spanish feel.

Guardamar Del Segura takes some beating if you want to be on the coast IMO,
