My mother has recently been for two weeks in Denia (93). We discovered that the switchboard there is reluctant to give out information - not allowed - and also that they do not speak English. There is a volunteer Translation service available in the hospital usually in the mornings.

If you can find out which ward etc, as RayD says, it may help. Do you have a friend here who perhaps could go and at least visit the ward - the staff are all extremely helpful and kind. I lived in the hospital for two weeks - have stayed in worse Travelodges!!!! - and it is mainly Spanish speaking, although some of the younger staff do speak English these days, but one is expected to communicate in Spanish, so you may need to ask your friend to find a translator,

Also, if perhaps he is now well enough to speak (?) he will be permitted to have his mobile phone with him - would this help? My mother’s was permananetly in use!
