It really depends what you're looking for because as the old saying goes "one mans meat is the next mans poison"!

Do you want to be beachside or inland? What type of property do you want to buy? Will you be permanent residents? Just the aswers to these questions will enable us to give you some pointers.

Hi
La Zenia, together with the wider area (known as Orihuela Costa), is awash with retired expats from all over Europe. It is a very convenient place to live, with lots of shops, bars, restaurants. It gets very busy in the summer months, partly because lots of Spaniards have holiday homes here - and it's never dead in winter because of the resident expats.
The most common language you will hear is English - if you're looking for a "typical Spanish" town then forget it, I struggle to think of a single Spanish restaurant, but American fast food outlets are plentiful, as are curry houses, Chinese, Asian and fish n chip restaurants.
In summer it can get very hot, but there is usually a sea breeze. In winter the sea breeze is still there, but can make it feel very cold!
Public transport is variable! Buses north and south are OK depending on where you want to go, but going inland is much more difficult!
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Steve

Many thanks for your informative reply. We really like the Spanish 'feel' and Spanish food. Guess will have to research further, do you have any suggestions. Thanks again

Hi again
Torrevieja is only a 15 minute drive away, and is far more Spanish (at least in the centre of town). But it is horribly congested and not pretty (apart from the promenade).
On TV (a place in the sun etc) I regularly see people looking for a location with a typically Spanish feel. Let me turn that around - if a Spaniard asked you to recommend somewhere typically English, what would you say? London? The Lake District? Bath? Leicester? Newcastle? I'm sure you get my point.
Cheers

Hi we bought a property in Guardamar del Segura at the beginning of the year. We love it and it is very Spanish. It’s a working coastal town with a lovely beach. It’s gets quieter in the winter as many Spanish people own holiday properties there. The town’s amenities are open all year however some restaurants close from October to March. In the summer months it is very busy. I think there are a handful of Ex/pats in the town but I’ve not met any yet. I would recommend visiting to see if that’s what you’re looking for. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your reply. We have heard of Guardamar, which part of Guardamar are you living in. Do you have any other recommendations. Thanks in advance

Hi we live in the Town Centre, Mercadona Area. It is ideally placed for accessing the beach and the town amenities.
