First let me say I have really found this forum really really helpful the last  6 months , the  information and tips about moving out and purchasing property, have been priceless and saved me a lot of research time, so a  big thanks to everyone for their time. Me and the wife are buying soon am 52 and wife 47 and will probably stay 6 or 7 months a year, I have been researching the area and visited a  few times now and know the orihuela Costa well, but have went inland a few times and have struggled to find any picturesque villages, maybe I have just not looked hard enough, so if anyone could help with information  on this that would be great. I live in a village in Scotland which has a good variety of pubs and restaurants so would be good if the inland villages  have the  same, also my wife is fitness instructor so near by gym would be good. Again thanks for everyone's time Hughie  and Mandi.

Hello both, just to let you know that you can only stay for 90 days out of a rolling 180 days once UK leaves the EU so staying 7 months will be out of the question unless you become resident and therefore fiscal resident.
Pretty towns are hard to find because they are mainly agricultural based here with little money to spare for worrying about what they look like but most towns and villages have bars and restaurants. All the money goes to the cities and there is a lot of bad feeling regarding the huge amounts of taxes gathered in the Orihuela Costa but never seeing any evidence of spending in the area.
I live in the hills inland of Albatera and I have the most amazing views of most of the Vega Baja and can see the sea on clear days but there is nothing pretty about the town itself.

Hopefully will get residency as thinking of retirement in near future. I have also found the villages I visited just as you said,  I suppose this is why property prices are so low, cheers for your  time and information

Hi Hugh,

The picturesque villages you talk about (and the type usually seen in tourist brochures) are the white-washed 'pueblos' of Andalucia.  Have you considered buying there?  Property purchase tax is also cheaper there ;o)

Kind regards,

Kim

Yes went their in October and stayed in few of white villages and also about 4 beach resorts and much preferred murcia region, did like white villages , thought I  might have missed something like them when visiting murcia, also thought beaches were better. Thanks again for reply
