The village that we live in at present, and will be moving to Lliber from has a huge dog problem.  The rules are that you pay a small fee and register your dog(s) at the town hall and obtain a licence and dog tag.  We tried to do this when we arrived but were told that the system is not running at the moment(?)  The whole of the village has quite a number of dogs roaming freely and fouling the pavements.  We have two small dogs (dashunds) one of which we take out on a collar and lead, and the other on a harness and lead.  We see very few other dogs taking their owners out for walks with a lead.  Our youngest - she is two - got attacked a few weeks ago by a free running rotweiller which I had to fight off with my walking stick. Fortunately no injuries.

Anyway, my question is about dog registration generally and in Lliber in particular.  I can't imagine the problem that we have in this village exists in many other places, but do we need to register our dogs when we move to Lliber?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike, you'd need to ask at your town hall. It's not a topic I've followed, but there's a national law, probably a Valencian law, and then each municipality should maintain its own register.

As you've seen, there's a massive gap between theory and practice, and very little enforcement.

Hi Jim.

Many thanks for your reply.  It is certainly a requirement were we live at the moment, it is just not implemented.  As you say, it will vary for each municipality, but we will do as you suggest, and check with our new town hall at the same time as getting our padron.

Really looking forward to coming to live in the area in September.

PS - just got back from our 20 minute short afternoon walk around town and counted the free-running dogs.  24 in total.  Bit of a problem.  One of our nieghbours has a tag on his dog, but when I looked at it, it was from another town 40km away.
