Very exciting for you! Such a shame that Covid is making things, like house hunting, so difficult.

If you look on Google Maps, there’s a road called CV95 that more or less gives you the divide between Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. Los Altos  is near this divide, so well suited to having the best of both worlds!...

...

We live in Lago Jardín 1, which is just across the CV95 (Torre side). It’s a lovely community, with a good mix of full time and holiday residents, and a good mix of nationalities.

A car is a good idea, to make the most of this lovely part of the world, but there’s a good bus service around the area, so getting into Torrevieja isn’t a problem.

If you don’t mind being inland a little, there are some nice small towns that might be worth investigating.

My Spanish teacher, Lorena, also has her own estate agency, which you can find on Facebook: Casas Wilson. She’s very good at understanding the brief and hunting it down! She’ll also be very honest with you and will be upfront about any potential pitfalls. Definitely worth talking to her.

If I can be of any help when you are ready to start looking, please feel free to message me. We took early retirement and moved out 2 years ago - best thing we ever did!

Hi I’ve been offered an apartment, in Urb Lago Jardin 1. I’m here on my own, for 3 months, one month in now, looking about at properties. Really not sure yet what I want, but defiately somewhere lively .

I lived in Gran Alacant for 2 yrs, although lovely, to quiet for me.

Any advice regarding the offer of the above mentioned rental, would be appreciated.

Thankyou.

Firstly Los Altos is in Orihuela Costa, not in Torrevieja which is the next town.  May sound a bit nit-picky but you need to know which town you are actually looking at.  Torrevieja is a traditional working Spanish town and resort so full of all the amenities you would expect in a worki...

...ng town. i always feel safe when walking around there .  Orihuela Costa is a much newer area, only a few small hamlets until the 1970's but there has been 40 years of building since then.  Very international and great beaches.  It is a designated tourist area but not along the lines of Benidorm or Torremolinos!  Low rise properties, good residential population and with plenty of amenities, open all year round.

Los Altos is one part of Orihuela Costa, which is one very large, and still growing, town.  The areas include Los Altos, part of Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Florida, Cabo Roig, La Zenia (which has a fabulous and large shopping mall!), Los Dolses, Villamartin, Campoamor, Lomas de Cabo Roig, and a few other names will also crop up as areas within the wider Villamartin area.

I would suggest you visit, but bare in mind that things are not quite as they normally are!  There are lots of small commercial areas dotted about with lovely cafe/bars and restaurants, shops for just about everything, market on Thursday morning in Cabo Roig by the sea front and another much larger one in Playa Flamenca on Saturdays.  If you are not so bothered about being right by the coast but want an more traditional small town than San Miguel de Salinas, just inland from Orihuela Costa.

We bought a property in Punta Prima just as lockdown happened 😢 got to visit it for 3 days . We Had never been to area before , but fell in love with it . Can’t wait to return and visit Torrevieja x

Hola Christina,

I don’t know where abouts your urbanisation is , so can’t comment.

You have been staying there for the past month and if you are happy enough with the area, what’s holding you back?

The weather will soon become cold in the evenings, do you have air con( hot/cold), heaters etc.,Do you have U.K. tv? Good WiFi?  If yes to these questions then you are comfortable.

You would like to live in a lively area but you must understand that at the moment there is very little life here at all . Put your time to good use. Carry a notebook with you and record things you like or dislike as you are out and about looking at different areas

What is lively?  Pubs with entertainment?   Not permitted during the pandemic. Pubs with people in them?  The only one I can think about on our side of town is called TANGO Located at Playa del carmen ( hope I am correct with area address)

I suggest you join one of the local Potanca street boules. All nationalities welcome. Held during the day and always looks like fun.

Go out for coffee and try to get into conversation with people sitting about. Being on your own you should be better equipped to know how To meet people.

We are here for another week. Are you on the La Mata side of Torrevieja? We could meet for coffee.

Good luck

Rosemary.

When we were looking to buy we fully researched all areas from Torre down to Los Alcazarez and decided on an area. We contacted an estate agent whi took us around the areas .We hated our initial choice and  eventually decided on Punta Prima which was down our list.we chose it as its walking distance to the beach ,bars.playa flamenca and the boulevatd plus a little quieter than some other areas.its about 6k from Torrevieja which can be reached by bus

I dont think you can chose the area thats right for you without first visiting all the areas as what looks good on paper might not feel right and whats right for one isnt right for another

I have alwsys felt safe howevet as someone mentioned ensure that there are people living full time on your complex

Good luck
