Hi.

A while ago I saw a post about Ibderola electricity extra charges, i.e protection cover Seguro Proteccion being added to the monthly bill, and this not being needed if you have home insurance.

I want to look into this either by email or failing that in person when I'm next in Spain.

Is it possible to sort out by email or is it better to go in person. I guess my nearest Iberdrola office is in Torrevieja.

Thanks.

On your latest bill you can check if you are being charged this cover. The bill normally has a telephone number you can call and they do have English speaking operators who can cancel the protection cover.

Is this the same as "Protección Eléctrica Hogar"? I have this charge on my Iberdrola bill.

There are two "extra" insurances. One is Proteccion Electrica Hogar which is breakdown for your electrical goods like TV, oven and so on. Pointless having that as you home insurance or warranty will cover those. Also seems to be a slow and not very effective service from Iberdrola

The other is Seguro de proteccion de pagos which is in case you lose your job for illness or redundancy. Pointless having that unless you are autonomo.

The latte is €3.95 a month and the former is €9,62 a month including IVA. Get the first one removed as it's expensive.

All sorted! They answered my email the following day and have taken both of the protection charges off. Is only 10 euros a month saving but its 120 euros for the year which will go towards the running costs of my holiday home.

Thanks Joanne for posting this. I looked at our bills and have also been paying this fee. I have lived here 8 years, so they’ve coined a lot from me. I will contact them now. Cheers! 👍

Thanks to who put this info on originally. Can’t find it on the forum now.

Thanks Joanne and respondees.

Immediately checked my bill on reading this and don't see the charges mentioned, thankfully. But there is a charge for equipment (Alquiler equipos medida) at €0.02 26 a day, assuming for the Smart meter?

Also Electric Emergency Service (Servicio Urgencias Eléctricas) at €1,99 a month but assuming that's for the provision of power rather than electrical goods, but if anyone knows????

Thanks.

Hi Joanne

We are also getting these charges( still in the uk atm)

Did you email from your monthly bill or direct to Iberdrola?

Our bills are still in Spanish and can’t for the life of me find anyway to change to English!!

Thanks for any help
