The latest update on the EU covid-19 vaccination passport, expected to be in place from July 1st. It does say in the article that "the passport will not become a precondition for travel and it will not be considered a travel document " -  so I wonder what it's use will be?

It's main purpose will be to employ legions of bureaucrats across Europe in a pointless exercise.  So nothing new either.

Hi Aitch,

I believe the purpose is to enable a single certification process that allows people continuity of travel throughout Europe, without the need to check the requirements of individual countries.  It doesn´t mean that member states will lift all restrictions, but without the digital certificate, some countries may require individual travellers to provide a negative PCR or Antigen test, so it´s probably intended for convenience and speed at country borders.

I thought this article was good too:

https://ec.europa.eu/info/live-work-travel-eu/coronavirus-response/safe-covid-19-vaccines-europeans/covid-19-digital-green-certificates_en

Media reports out of the UK this morning are saying that the UK government has all but scrapped the idea of its own "vaccination passport", so it remains to be seen how entry by UK travellers into the EU will be managed.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

       thanks for the article.

I had not seen anything about the UK covid passport, possibly they are hopeful that third countries will be able to link at some point to the EU document?

It would be useful if the WHO adapted their current Int'l Certification of Vaccine to show covid details as well, something that could be accepted globally.

For coming to Spain we have the digital record on the NHS App (which strangely shows a expiration date of June 20th) and a hardcopy NHS letter with full details on vaccine given, dates, location, etc - though neither are a requirement at the moment.
