The amount of dog s--t in areas in Montesinos is becoming increasingly worse. The Town Hall  keep saying how much money they have in the bank, its about time they implemented a structure they have in parts of Costa del sol making dog owners take a pooh sample to the vet.The vet registers the dogs DNA to a database and they have wardens who patrol the streets and collect samples, all dog owners must have a certain colour disc displayed on the dogs collar and if they don't they are fined.A heavy fine is given to the owners without one and a larger fine for s--t not bagged and binned.Instead of building roundabouts and removing pavement slabs and renewing with new ones which don't need renewed.Time to take action now and stop this abhorrent action off I don't care pet owners.

I fully agree with you. The back streets of Benidorm are strewn with dog crap and you dare not walk along them at night for fear of treading in it.

It's happening all over!!!

Yes, there are far too many dog owners who fail to pick up dog poo. Without defending any of them, does anybody know if some sort of telescopic cane that could collect aforesaid without owner having to bend down has been invented ? There are many elderly dog owners

,(yours truly included) who find that task very difficult and consequently, I have to take my dear Wife with me if I want "walkies"!!.

Regarding the coloured discs, I think that you have incorrect information. Those discs were legally required annually to show that the dog has had its anti rabies jab. That scheme has now however, been cancelled according to our vet..

Happy waggie tails !

Cheers, Adrian

Maybe all these ‘helpful’ stray dog charities could start an initiative were they go around clearing the streets of the ‘stray dog sh*te’

Now that would be a ‘charity’ doing some good for the community at large 👍

Hi James,

The national legislation for the dog DNA scheme has been in place since 2013, but the Government left it to the municipalities to roll out in their individual areas.  Our Town Hall did so last year,  but our nearest neighbouring towns - Rojales, Daya Vieja and San Fulgencio - haven't done so, so we have the ludicrous situation of irresponsible dog owners being able to walk to a location where the scheme isn't in operation, and letting their dogs cr@p there instead!

Unfortunately, I think you're probably too late for the potential leverage of the municipal elections on 28th May, but don't let that stop you petitioning your Town Hall.  Good luck 👍

Kind regards,

Kim

The thing I just couldn't fathom, are the dog owners who go to the trouble of bagging their dog faeces, then throw it high up in a tree or in those spiked plants. Maybe they were intent on leaving a permanent reminder of their beloved dog for in the years following its demise?
