I think you may mean 'want' not 'need' but regardless the one thing you cannot do is leave it on UK plates, you must make the switch to Spanish plates within one month of becoming resident.

Also to avoid import duties you must have owned, and used, the car for at least 6 months.

Generally speaking then unless it's something very special importing is a bad idea due to the costs (potentially thousands), the bureaucracy, and the fact that residual values for RHD cars in Spain are very low and can easily wipe out anything you may have saved by not buying in Spain in the first place - and maybe much more - so it really only makes sense if it's a car which you intend to keep and drive into the ground.

Another point to consider is that Low Emission Zones are due to rolled out across most of the country this year which will apply to all towns with 50,000 or more inhabitants so if it's more than about 10 years old you could well find it disqualified from access to those. From memory it needs to be a Euro 4 or 5.

Face a considerable amount of money if you do not have or obtain a so called COC.

   I would do as Kim recommends and get in touch with Leigh Blann at Spanish-Number-Plates. I used them when we brought a UK over a few years back, very good service, price charged exactly as quoted. 

Not sure that it is worth bringing a UK car over now, though if you do I find it is no trouble driving a RHD car in Spain, except for the odd entrance barrier if your on your own!.
