Hi, we did the same last October when we last travelled, our pet dog is going to have his rabies booster here in the UK on 5/4/22, will be taking his eu, Spanish, passport for the vet to record the details I will let you know what happens! I do know friends of ours have travelled back to Spain in February this year with no problem with there pet passport.

Thanks for that its very helpful. We were told by a couple in october not to let a uk vet write in passport as it makes it invalid. Maybe you could check with your vet re this. I was concerned as our uk vet said we still had to have the animal health certificate from Defra as well as eu passport but considering he did not fill in the last one properly causing us a lot of problems at plymouth i am not sure i trust him. Regards Ann

Thanks Ann , I will ask our friends who have recently travelled back to Spain with there Spanish pet passport, so I'm briefed up and ready for when we go to get our pets booster jab on Tuesday! When we got our pet passport in October 2021 the Spanish vet said we can get the booster done in the UK when it's due there's no need to come to spain to get it done, as we were willing to make arrangements to be in Spain when the booster was due !
Will keep you updated

The European pet passport is only valid with a rabies vaccine recorded by an EU vet. British vets are not allowed to put entries in the passport. Southern Ireland vets, French vets etc can do. Given the price of the health certificate for our dogs we are planning a day visit to France from the Uk to get rabies jabs before the current entries run out!

If you have an EU passport with a valid rabies jab still in date done by an eu vet you don’t need the animal health certificate.
If you have an Eu passport with an entry made by a British vet before brexit and the jab is still in date you don’t need the AHC
If you have an Eu passport with an entry made with a British vet after brexit, the passport is not valid and you need an AHC even if the rabies jab is still in date.

Very helpful member
I am taking my 2 over on an AHC. Whilst there they will receive an EU administered Rabies Vax and a passport. I will then travel home using only my AHC. I then need to go back over within 12 mths for their booster Rabies vax using the pet passport, I will not need an AHC.
If I dont get over within 12 mths my pet passport is null and void
