I am taking my 2 over on an AHC. Whilst there they will receive an EU administered Rabies Vax and a passport. I will then travel home using only my AHC. I then need to go back over within 12 mths for their booster Rabies vax using the pet passport, I will not need an AHC.

If I dont get over within 12 mths my pet passport is null and void...

...

We came out to Spain with our pet on a very expensive AHC which will be completed with the worming info for our return at the end of April by the Spanish vet but will also get a EU pet passport with rabies booster which our vet says will last 2 yrs and use that in future. I refuse to pay for another AHC.

If you have an EU passport with a valid rabies jab still in date done by an eu vet you don’t need the animal health certificate.

If you have an Eu passport with an entry made by a British vet before brexit and the jab is still in date you don’t need the AHC

If you have an Eu passport with an entry made with a British vet after brexit, the passport is not valid and you need an AHC even if the rabies jab is still in date.

Thankyou very reassuring.  Hope Neil reads this before he lets his vet enter details on eu passport regards Ann

Hi everyone for there help on this post, I have now cancelled my appointment at the vets in the UK and will do the day trip to France as previously mentioned,  it seems that the vet I used in Spain gave me the incorrect information at the time of issuing the pet passport.

Thanks again all .

We are uk resident and visit Spain 3x a year. We've now travelled twice using Spanish pet passport with no problems. Our uk vet now has nothing to do with our travel arrangements. It depends on timing and being able to get your worming and rabies done in Spain at the correct intervals. Hope this helps

Hi, we did the same last October when we last travelled,  our pet dog is going to have his rabies booster here in the UK on 5/4/22, will be taking his eu, Spanish,  passport for the vet to record the details I will let you know what happens! I do know friends of ours have travelled back...

... to Spain in February this year with no problem with there pet passport.

I have 3 dogs I travel 5/6 times a year from Uk through France into Spain and back to Uk again. I changed all their passports to European passports via my Spanish vet. I never have a problem going through any pet reception and they do not need a health certificate as long as they have had their rabies shots up to date and their yearly boosters. A worm tablet is required from vet when travelling back into Uk which will be recorded in their passports and a quick once over to make sure they are fit to travel. Unfortunately a lot of Uk vets do not know a lot about pet passports as they do not do them on a regular basis. I have had problems in Uk getting them filled in where they haven't stamped them or put plastic seal over signatures etc and had to ask them to do it🙄it is a palaver but once you know you know. Just so you know vet bills and jabs are much much cheaper in Spain so if your over there get your treatments done and save money too 👍🏻

An English vet can’t add rabies vaccine into an EU passport  . The rabies vaccine has to be given in Europe . If you have it in England then you have to purchase an English travel pass if the vet in England fills the EU passport in it will void the EU passport .

That didn't happen to me snd all my dogs have EU passports. During covid I had to get their rabies done in Uk to keep them up to date and I did not have to get a certificate as well when I wanted to go back to Spain. Has it changed?

a uk vet cannot enter rabies info onto a spanish passport as it makes the passport invalid as we are no longer in european union. You must have been lucky to get to spain in that case
