a uk vet cannot enter rabies info onto a spanish passport as it makes the passport invalid as we are no longer in european union. You must have been lucky to get to spain in that case

My dogs have had 2 lots of rabies shots in Uk to travel and I've never had a problem. I think you may be wrong about this as they would have stopped me in pet reception at the ports. Also I have a very knowledgeable vet in Spain who would have picked up on this. I usually get them jabbed in Spain as it's much cheaper as is vaccinations and other treatments but definitely had them done here twice

Our dog always had rabies jab in uk but the point i am making is he now has to have them in spain as uk vets are not allowed to enter details of any treatments in spanish passport since we left EU  as it makes passport invalid .

Hi travelling to Moraira in next few weeks when last there in october got an EU pet passport but uk vet says we need an animal health certificate too. Has anyone else had any experience of this. Regards Ann

Hi, we just travelled to Spain this week using only the EU pet passport for our 2 dogs and everything was straight forward.  Do not need additional health certificate.

You do gave to have rabies vaccine in Spain though annually as a UK vaccine/booster is not recognised.

Hi, we did the same last October when we last travelled,  our pet dog is going to have his rabies booster here in the UK on 5/4/22, will be taking his eu, Spanish,  passport for the vet to record the details I will let you know what happens! I do know friends of ours have travelled back...

... to Spain in February this year with no problem with there pet passport.

Neil

Hi, we were told by both our vet in Spain and UK that the rabies vaccine must be administered in Spain annually as we are no longer in the EU the UK vaccine is not recognised.

Our dogs had recently been vaccinated in UK but when we applied for their EU passport they had to be vaccinated again in Spain because of this.

It may be I have been given incorrect information but please double check before you go ahead 🙂

Sorry just re-read your post and you were getting booster on 5th so will have already been, did you get sorted? Just wondering if I've been given wrong information, thanks

You are correct that any rabies vaccine given in England after brexit is not valid, but it can be done in other EU countries as well,  such as the Republic of Ireland(not northern Ireland) or France which may be more convenient if you can’t get to Spain within the vaccine period. We are planning a day trip to France whilst are pet passport vaccines are still within date, to get the new vaccines before the existing Spanish ones run out. The passports will then be valid for our trip to Spain later in the year.

It depends on if your pet has a British pet passport or eu passport. All mine have eu passports and can travel easier than me!

Rabies boosters are no longer fone annually they are done 2 yearly with some countries doing it 3 yearly I think you have been misinformed. Please recheck as my dogs are done 2 yearly now in Spain and my Uk vet recognises this too. Rules change and sometimes get overlooked unfortunately. If I knew how to upload my dogs passport for you to see I would but I don't know how 😕

Thank you for all the very helpful information and advice relating to Pet Passports.

We have a UK issued Pet Passport for our dog which is now obsolete and we will therefore have to get an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for our trip to Javea and Moraira in May/June.  As we hope to visit Spain fairly regularly in makes sense to get a Pet Passport during our next trip to Spain rather than have to get an AHC for every future trip.

Could anybody recommend an English speaking vet in (or close to) Javea or Moraira that is able to issue Pet Passports.  I would also be interested to know the cost of a Pet Passport.

Thank you, Bob.
