I agree. I have an account with Caixa now, not through choice. I have been with the same branch for 19 years, Caja Murcia, BMN, Bankia and now Caixa. They are terrible. As a commercial bank, nothing is free. All they are interested in is selling you something you don't want. We sold an apartment that had a mortgage with them from Bankia days. We approached th about a mortgage on another property and was told that we had to have property insurance (fine), life insurance (which we already had evidence of far more than needed) and lastly an alarm system installed and monitored by securitas/verisure. We queried the alarm as the apartment was on the second floor in a gated community. Their answer was that it was the only way he (the manager) could guarantee the mortgage and it would be passed within the week. He also said we could cancel the contract after 3 months, securitas small print was it had to remain active and monitored for a number of years. We declined.

swcoulthurst. I have to make a 3500mile return trip to Spain next Sunday to sort out this mess. I am fortunate enough to be able to pay off what is left of my loan from this bank and close the account. However I will be requesting their complaints book and writing a full and frank explanation of the reseasons for my dissatisfaction with their business. I then intend to visit the consumer complaints department of the Orihuela Costa Gobiermiento to make an officicial complaint about how this bank treats its customers extranjo. I must point out that I do not now have the link but I received a report of a public notification from the Bank of Spain recently. It stated that there had been 50 major banks and Cajas closed or taken over since 2008. The remaining banks had made over 300,000,000 Euros in monthly account charges (mostly extranjos), many of which were illegal. There were no replies from the banks. I have a Wise account and have been faced with Spanish businesses refusing to accept a DD from this bank until I pointed out that the bank is registered in Belgium and that it is illegal for a business to refuse to accept a DD from an EU registered bank. Once a bank is registered in one EU country it is registered in them all. Hope this helps

Thank you for the warning, so sad they were very helpful before, when it was Bankia, but since the merger I have not been able to access my account. They said come to the branch, but since I am not in Moraira, I tried two other towns, without result...
