I would like some advice on renewing my driving licence please. I am 78 and my licence runs out next March. We have moved to Moraira but only have a short term let for the moment, but it says that I need a Padron for the address change.  Any suggestions?

You need to be on the padron because car tax in Spain in levied by the town you live in. Can you not sign on the padron where you are even though it is temporary?

Define "short term let"?

While you can apply for a renewal up to 3 months prior to the due date there is no obligation to do so so and you can leave it until the last day if you think or hope to be more permanently settled by then.

Alternatively, and depending on any residual connection with your previous address because a new licence will of course arrive by post there, put your application in at the earliest moment using that, you can always change it after.

Alternatively, seek advice from a Gestor.  That's their job.  They are a mindful of information and will even help you through the process making it less stressful and trouble free.

If you weren't aware, the validity of your licence will also depend on age, so the older you are, the less time you have your licence valid for meaning you will have to renew earlier each time, ie, over 50 = valid for 10 years; over 60 = valid for 5 year; over 70 = valid 3 years; thereon it must be renewed yearly or until you fail the medical.

We have a 5 month (6 months min for Padron).  Will have a long term, but not until end of March.  May get one earlier.  Thank you for your advice,

Thank you a  gestors is an option we thought about.  I am over 70, so it is becoming shorter.  Thank you for your help.

Thank you, previous address is not an option, but we may be moving earlier, so that would work.  Then get a Gestor to get it through faster.
