Sorry to hear that you can't get back.

A friend here in Oliva went back to Brighton just before Xmas to settle his affairs with the intention of returning here mid Jan, but got caught by the travel ban and various flight cancellations. He and his wife now look to have flights to Madrid for the end of February, but they've missed their...

... TIE appointment in Valencia, and might yet get refused entry on arrival. So much uncertainty in life now

Yes I agree with this uncertainty with the Chinese virus. We are very fortunate that we are Irish citizens. Surely your friends will be able to prove that they were resident in Spain before the travel ban came in? Worthwhile talking to a lawyer?

I wish your friends luck and hope it all works out.

Best regards

They have documents proving their Residencia applications from their lawyer, and also proof of their missed TIE appointment, but it may come down to whoever processes them on arrival at Madrid, and what sort of mood they're in. It's all very 'fingers crossed'
