Just wondering 🤔 is it just me or is there a lack of nice quality places to eat around Torrevieja and Ouihuela Costa ?

Tried many and lots have been lack lustre and some have frankly made feel quite ill..

Spain of old that used to offer good quality small dishes freshly cooked every day does not seem to exist anymore .....🤷‍♀️

If anyone has any suggestions - I like to support independent businesses especially when out here on holiday but do not want to feel ill on holiday.....

I think you are absolutely right. I've been here a fair while and always try and support local businesses and check their reviews and can only count on one hand the places I'd recommend, although when I have commented and put a review on, some people "are up in arms" about what I've put, but it's been my observation and 100% honest. I fully understand the ramifications of negative reviews, having been in hospitality over 40 years, but instead of proprietors and owners setting good standards & to be fair there are some good places, but the majority don't seem to care or are wannabe bar owners and or restauranteers, who "haven't thought it through" and are sadly lacking in the appropriate skillset, smiling and able to string a sentence together are just two of those "skills". Good luck on your search. PS, places I have been and continue to use are Muelle on the seafront in Torrevieja, La Estacion in La Marina (great attitude from Kelly & staff), Ali Baba near La Marquesa golf, plus Wok Buffet Yu Hai, plus I have heard good things about the Thai restaurant in Guardamar, Ayutthaya Thai.

Thank you - I do not live here but have a holiday home and been coming since 1999 and it seems it has changed due to numbers but nit did the better in some cases

Sorry to be blunt as it upsets me to give this review of a place we have made such good me

Although not in your area, I think many of the less expensive bars etc are relying on ‘ central casting’ ( Brake Bros or equivalent) to buy in tapas etc. It’s cheaper and less fuss.

Hi Joanie,

I take it from your post that you're looking for traditional Spanish tapas?  I'm afraid I agree with Stephanie: the only places I've found for great tapas on the coast are, for example, 'Tapas Alley' in Benidorm and the Lizarran chain.  Otherwise, you have to go inland from the tourist traps where they're competing on price.  The best tapas we've had have been in Pamplona and Santander - but that's a long way to go for lunch! ;o)

Tonight, we're going to 'Rustica' in the Playa Flamenca commercial centre, just off the N332, and I'm looking forward to trying somewhere new (to us).  We've previously been to the restaurant next door, 'Gong', an Asian fusion restaurant, which was very nice, but if anyone wants genuine Thai food, I agree with LowSun10 and highly recommend 'Ayutthaya Thai' in Guardamar, a regular haunt of ours.

Kind regards,

Kim

Try Manolos on the CV895, just by El Raso, and near to Guardamar del Segura and the Lemon Tree market.

Totally Spanish restaurant,  very busy on weekday lunchtimes with Spanish workers, having the menu del dia.

They cook paella on the woodfire, especially on Sundays.

It will give you a great taste of local food, it's not top notch gourmet food, but good honest home cooking style.

Thank you for all the suggestions- I will certainly be giving them a try next time I am on the Costa Blanca.

Tried the big Restaurant at Punta Prima overlooking the sea  and Surfer Shack at Playa Flamenca - would recommend both for food and fabulous customer service

I think you’ll like SUNSET. It’s on the headland at Playa del Cura. further around the coast heading towards La Mata you should definitely try BAR LAVENTO. It’s a big Spanish galleon overlooking the sea. Open all year round. Continue on along the sea front and there’s Fusion and Vela beach.  Both owned by Bar Lavento. You won’t be disappointed. Again, open all year. Not far from these restaurants going uphill to TORRAMARINA ( Big Mercadona there). You’ll find Sanaps & Ketchup. Upmarket and great food. Close by is BAYSIDE. Always one of my regulars.
Los Locas. LA BOCA. Overlooks the sea. Delightful. I could keep going but you may prefer to dine on the south side of town and I’ve only offered the north side!!
