It won't cost a penny if you donate the remains to any investigation institution (University, Hospital etc.).

They're not accepting 'donations' at the moment, because of Covid-19, but perhaps if it's under control by the end of the year, they may start again.

As far as I understand this, both here and in UK, neither hospitals nor Universities are willing to accept ‘bodies’ for research unless they meet certain criteria. This is not just due to Covid but apparently the remains of much older people are not necessarily appropriate for teaching or research.

My mother tried some years ago to leave herself for this purpose (she has lived here for 60 years) and was turned down for the above reasons.

I organised this for myself years ago as I don't have any family and have all the papers but I suspect that they're not going to want me in the state I'm in now. 😁😁 This has been a reminder for me to sort this out again.

Hi Myra,

Another member on here also arranged this some years ago; however, when his wife died last year, he was advised that Covid-19 restrictions meant they had suspended the service.  Although, given Stephanie's post, perhaps they were just trying to let him down gently.

Stay safe,

Kim

If a non-resident visitor were to unfortunately pass away in Spain, what would a straight forward cremation funeral in Spain  cost? Anyone had the misfortune to know someone's family who had to avail this without having had a funeral plan? Details, etc. would be appreciated. Funeral plans se...

Hi I had to use funeral services last November unfortunately. I will include a photo of my bill and if you want more detail feel free to PM me.

My resident neighbours husband passed away April last year and the cost for a basic cremation in Torrevieja was in the region of 4,000 euros, I am on the understanding this covered everything.

WOW that's very expensive!

Iv just taken out a funeral plan for mum with an English speaking company called Compare Funerals ltd for 3000 euros all in and it covers absolutely everything.

I'm thinking now of taking one out for myself and my wife to protect our children from the cost and grief

Hi Luke,

I think you're comparing apples and pears.  Spanish funeral plans typically cover the insured for a funeral in Spain and their country of origin, whereas a plan with Compare Funerals Ltd is for UK funerals only.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Yes you are right Kim Compare Funerals ltd are an English company however they operate in Spain and have a base in Cadiz, I did all the checks on them before taking out the plan for mum and its all legit and above board. Another thing i thought was brilliant is it doesn't matter if mum passes away here or in the UK her funeral will be taken care of with no extra charges.

Hi Luke,

I can find nothing on their UK website about having a base in Spain:

https://compare-funeralplans.co.uk

Could you share a link to the company you bought from please - I'm sure many will be pleased to hear of cheaper plans being available for the same level of service.

Kind regards,

Kim

Wow, I paid for the cheapest way I could back in November 2020 when I lost my lovely husband and it still came to 4700€. That was the cheapest coffin, no church service, I night in the sala, etc. The only extra I had was flowers at 90€ to place next to the coffin while friends came to pay their respects. How on earth can they do it for 3000€? Are you sure it includes crematorium, embalming etc? Please check so your family arn’t caught out.

Anyway Luke, if it’s all in  you have a bargain there, well done. I just hope you don’t have to use it anytime soon. Take care and stay safe.
