Hi. I have more than 10 years of experience working in hospitality here in England. I wish to spend a couple of months away and working in Spain would be a dream coming true.

Please let me know if any vacancies. Happy to forward my CV.

Kind regards.

Hi,

If you are a UK passport holder......

To be able to work legally here in Spain would need you to have a work visa.

To be able to get a work visa you will need to apply for and get a contracted work position.

All work positions must be offered to an EU citizen first by law. If nobody suitable can be found within the EU then it could be offered to you.

There is still high unemployment here in Spain so sadly its unlikely that you will find work in that sector.

If you do not have an EU/EEA Passport you will need a visa to work in Spain. This link explains the visas available and what you need to provide the Spanish Consulate in the UK as part of the application process:

Good luck.

He's only looking for temporary bar work for a couple of months, not head of Caixa bank in Spain.

Bit ridiculous applying for a work permit to come and live in Spain when it's a just a little while in the sun and earning enough to pay his keep.

The answer is, no, you won't be able to do it because a tourist is not allowed to work while visiting. Even someone who wants to live here permanently, which you don't, needs to go through a lot of hoops .

On the other hand, many workers in bars and restaurants here don't go through the formal procedures and bother with red tape such as contracts and permits. Paying cash, but lower than the minimum wage of course, is quite the done thing.

Trouble is, you'd have to know someone as they aren't going to answer or advertise on a public forum that this is what they are doing.

On the plus side. many are leaving that type of work due to unsocial and long hours for not much pay and bars and restaurants were desperate last year to find people to carry out such work.

That may be the case but if the gentleman is not a holder of an EU/EEA passport and as you say will require a visa whether he wants to be temporary head of Caixa Bank or a temporary waiter. The reason for providing the visa information is to let the gentleman know what is involved should he consider moving to Spain permanently and to enable him make an informed decision.

According to Spanish law, foreigners who want to work in Spain need to have a legal residence permit that allows them to work such as work visa, permanent residence, family residence, etc. If an employer hires a person without a residence permit, he or she may be subject to administrative penalties.
