Hi there,

I've been reading posts by people who were hoping to purchase a property in Pego. The posts are quite old, and as someone who is "hoping to buy a property in Pego", I was just wondering if your purchase had been successful and how you were finding things.

We were over a few months ago viewing houses. We are coming back in the Spring as we are quite keen to get a property in the town. Any advice from anyone would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

We have lived  permanently in Pego for 6 years, and love it! The best advice we were given was to rent first to try the area out.  If you are looking for a holiday home rather than a permanent move, I appreciate this is not practical.  The best Estate Agent to hook up with is The Property Shop, in the neighbouring town of Els Poblets.  There are, like any town, better areas than others, and if you want to PM on this, I can give you more information.

We have done work for numerous newbies in Pego, and everybody  loves it here.  Very Spanish, so friendly, busy all year round, with the best fiestas!

Anything you want to know specifically, please let me know, and perhaps we can meet up for a coffee in the wonderful Bar Casino, when you are here.

Hi Costa Caretaking,

Many thanks for your reply. I'm delighted to here that you love living in Pego.

We got a really good feel for the place when we were there, and we've got a good idea of what's in Pego and where the facilities are. I have to say although we were only there for a short time, we did like the town, it had a nice vibe and the locals that we spoke to were very nice and helpful.

We're coming over at the beginning of April and we're renting a house in Pego. Unfortunately we can only stay for ten days. We viewed quite a few properties on our last visit and we've been keeping an eye on the property market online, so hopefully we will see something suitable this time and get the ball rolling. We're initially looking for a holiday home for the next 2/3 years, with a view to it becoming more permanent, so I guess at the moment we're looking for a foot on the Pego property market. Thanks for letting us know about 'The Property Shop', we'll look them up.

We've pretty much done our homework, but not knowing the town the way you do, we just wondered if Pego  was like most towns, in that some parts/areas are more preferable to live than others, and if so should we be looking at particular areas/streets. Also we can't remember the names of the banks in the town as we'll need to open accounts.

Love to take you up on your offer of meeting for coffee.

Hi Relyat,

We're basically just interested in people's experience of buying in Spain, and living in Pego.

We really like the town, but we don't know anyone there. The only people we've really spoken to are Estate Agents, so if there's anything you think might be useful for us to know, we'd be grateful to hear it.

Afternoon.

Long story short - we bought in 2014, at that time Pego was on the short list but we ended up buying farther North. In the meantime circumstances changed and we sold up in June last year and bought in Pego.

So far there is no down side, the town is great as are the people ( that's the same pretty much anywhere). There are different parts to the town but when you are here next I'm sure that you will discover all that, spend time walking around at different times of the day and evening and get a feel for what goes on where.

If I can help at all let me know.

Hi weewumin

The three main banks in Pego are BBVA, Sabadell and Santander.  We bank with Santander and their 123 account means they pay you a small dividend each month.  They only speak Spanish.  I believe the other two do speak various languages, however Sabadell in particular do have standard charges and have risen later?

Love to meet for a coffee and let me know if I can help further.

Best regards

Steph

Thanks for that Relyat. We did walk around the town at different times of the day, but not in the evening. This time round we will be staying in Pego itself, so we'll get a better feel for the place. Many thanks, much appreciated.

That's great Steph, thank you so much. We thought there was a Santander, but couldn't remember the name of the other one, we thought there were two banks, so having a choice of three is better. Good to know about charges etc, much appreciated.

Viv.
