Removing window security grille

Rather tongue in cheek but the thieves will be able to tell you, I have actually seen one taken clean out with an airbag.

If you want to remove it permanently it may affect your home insurance. It certainly will attract the thieves and squatters.

I understand some people's concerns but...

I'm on a row of 6 1st floor apartments and only 3 have grilles on the front bedroom window. No grilles st all to the rear windows and we all have shutters and grilles on external doors and terraces.

Anyone know of who can help me with legitimate quotes.

If it has security bolts then drill in the middle then use a Alan key to remove the bolts. If it built in the brickwork then you will need a disc cutter to cut the steel fixings.

I see that the window next to yours has had the grille removed.    The fixings appear to be simple brackets, not built-in

Normally the hex security screw has an aluminum plug fitted after installation, often not.  If there are plugs the you need a small drill to remove them and then an Allen key to fit.    If there are no plugs then its a 10 minute job.

And don't forget, these grills are pretty heavy things.

If you do remove it yourself, considering how you're going to get the grill to the ground.  You can't pull it in as the one you have has a lip which abutts the outer wall and is a security measure to deter the unit being jemmied off.

We did this 15 years ago when we had a full reform on the villa. Told every insurance company we have been with and everyone has said it’s not a problem. I personally hate the things. As long as your honest with the insurance company you should be fine 👍
