Hi Mark,
Spain had been following the same routine as the UK in administering the vaccine, i.e. frontline healthcare workers, the elderly and vulnerable, and they completed the 80+ age group this week. However, doubts over the AstraZeneca vaccine resulted in them changing tack and remaining stocks have been used to vaccinate teachers and are now being used for the general population under 65 years of age.
On 19 April, Spain is scheduled to take delivery of 1.3m of the single-dose vaccine from Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), with further supplies in May and June totalling 6m doses. As your auntie falls into the 65-79 age group, I would imagine she will receive a vaccine in late April. If she's resident in Spain, with a SIP card for reciprocal healthcare issued by her local "Centro de Salud", she will be called for her vaccine at the appropriate time. So it's important to make sure that her contact details are up to date with her health centre - if she has a Spanish mobile, even better, as they will text her when she needs to attend for her vaccine.
Kind regards,
Kim
