We’re going to lay non- slip tiles onto an outside wooden staircase and we need expanding metal to fix on the wooden treads, to give the adhesive a stronger grip before we lay the tiles. They use it all the time in the U.K. but we can’t find any here.

Hi Moonraker. Yes, that’s what we’re looking for but can’t find it at any of the builder’s merchants around Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa. Do you know where we could get it from?

Moonraker. I must confess I have never used it to lay tiles. Could it be in general use in the UK because of the risk of frost damage to the adhesive? If so perhaps it is not used in Spain because of the lack of frost damage? The Spanish seem to just lay the tile adhesive directly on to the surface then the tiles on top. I would talk to the english speaking attendants in the relevant section of Leroy Merlin for their advice, or the people who are supplying your tiles, for their advice on how to affix them to the stairs. That is the best advice I can give Im afraid. hope it helps.

Thank you, Moonraker for taking the time to try and help us. My husband’s decided on a method now. So we’re eagerly waiting for the tile delivery. Have a good day.
