My daughter and I arrive in spain on Sunday July 11th. Unable to get there sooner as my daughter is a teacher and only breaks up on July 9th. The ITV on my car expires on June 30th.  A friend is collecting us from the airport in his car.  In the past he has taken my car for its ITV.  Last November I managed to get to spain between lockdowns  and he took my car to be tested….it passed but the certificate was backdated to June. That was ok.
I asked him if he could  arrange to take it on the day after our arrival. He has told me that it is is no longer possible following Brexit for him to take my car as the ITV will be 12 days out of date and he will face a fine of 250 euros. I seems that driving to the ITV station for the test is illegal.
I am sure that many other non resident home owners in Spain will face this dilemma of their Spanish registered cars having an out of date ITV bearing in mind Spain only opened its borders to U.K. visitors 4 weeks ago. is this information correct ????

Yes, it has always been the same, unlike the UK you can't drive to the ITV if it has expired, it has to be taken on a recovery truck or trailer.

A lot of garages offer to take your car for ITV, there may be somewhere local to you that does the same thing.

Hi Parrott

Unless I’m not understanding you clearly, your friend is in Spain and has previously taken your car for its ITV?

Is it therefore not possible for your friend to take it before the expiry of your current ITV 🤪🥂

Hi David.  Thank you again .  I found the website and have an  appointment  for the day after our arrival . Unfortunately the documents are locked in the safe in my house so I will drive myself to the ITV station.

It's your risk to take, but the fine isn't worth the risk in my opinion, hence your friend not being willing to take it.

I thought I could book an appointment but the ITV station wouldn’t accept my English mobile number. So I will ask my Keyholder to go into the safe and get the documents  and pass them on to my friend.  Thank you all for your advice
