Buying from Amazon UK

I have been using Amazon . co. uk to sent stuff to family in UK and .es or .de to buy things for delivery here.

I wonder if anyone has bought from .co.uk to be sent to Spain? I understand they remove the UK VAT and add Spanish IVA and customs charges onto the goods so you don't go through the rigmarole of doing all the paperwork yourself.

I have been trying to get a PC from them for delivery here and they see I need to identify myself with an NIF (same as our NIE) or a passport. I have tried to enter my NIE but it keeps coming up with not recognised character. I have tried just putting the numbers in without the X at the front and the letter at the back, or just the X at the front but still get the same message.

I was going to try to do it with my passport number but wondered if anyone had done the same thing? I wouldn't want it to be rejected for the wrong info being a resident here. The PC is a lot cheaper from UK and also comes with a UK keyboard (it's for my wife) unlike the ones available on .es.

Anyone bought anything from .co.uk and either used the passport number or knows what bit of the NIE I should use?

Ta da! After posting that I have worked it out so might help anyone else doing it.

When entering the NIE you have to put a - between the letters and numbers. As in X-1234567-B and not the normal way we do it.

The price of the PC on Amazon.es was €279.99 but did not come with Windows, just Chrome OS and a Spanish keyboard. At MediaMarkt today the same one was €299.99 but still without Windows.

From UK, the same model with Windows 11 was £179.99. When my address was shown as Spain, it was reduced to £149.99 after taking off VAT but then added £45.90 to include delivery, Spanish IVA and customs charges. Total £195.89 which would be around €229.

A good saving and got the type I wanted. Will take about 3 weeks for delivery.
