Globally, the experts with differing view-points, incl. scientists, medical staff, pharmaceuticals, World Heath Org, politians, media over the many months have differed/changed their opinions regarding mask wearing & virus protection. Which experts do we listen to today?

The only option is to abide by the law & hope they are right.

In addition, my mum & grandmother always said," Don't spread it about. Use your hanky!" ( This was, of course before Kleenex & mascarillas invented). Granny reached until 99yrs. She always had her embroidered hanky with her. ( quite expert in her advice). V

Hi Kay,

You're right, the experts did know better - unfortunately, BoJo and the UK Cabinet didn't have a clue.

Many regions of Spain are currently seeing exponential growth in the infection rates of Flu, Covid and RSV - if it's allowed to continue unchecked, then you'll really have something to complain about: mask wearing reinstated in other situations and, worse still, our hospitals being overwhelmed.

I'm sure, once control of the infection spike has been recovered, the authorities will lift the requirement again 👍

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi V2,

I found this research interesting, because it reviewed a range of studies conducted on the wearing of facemasks.  It was published in 2021, although I couldn't find anything more recent with a similarly rigorous methodology:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8499874/

Like you, I think we have to trust the experts.  It's just common sense to me that, if worn correctly, facemasks will provide an additional level of protection - and given that the reintroduction of wearing them is only in hospitals and medical centres, it seems reasonable that we should do our bit to help protect patients and clinicians, and ourselves into the bargain 😷😉

Kind regards,

Kim

So let me get this straight. We have just had a major campaign and uptake of the covid and flu jabs these last couple of months. And now we see a major rise in covid and flu cases, and at a time of year when flu is renown for being rampant anyway. And now we have to wear masks again to stop it? Right........No link there of course.

Maybe we should all just wear one forever and have done with it. It seems that's what some people in power are angling for.

I remember the days when if someone got sick with flu/cold or whatever, they stayed at home and loaded up on vicks and honey and lemon (and brandy), and sweated it out. There was no need for a yearly fear campaign regarding respiratory issues during WINTER in the past and there's not one now.

Now its anytime someone sneezes out come the mask mandates. It's ridiculous to insist people with zero symptoms are being asked to mask up. By all means wear one if it makes you feel better. But i won't. The last time i got sick was during the mask mandates and i have been fine since. I won't be wearing one again if they make it mainstream.

Not a big rise in covid cases at all. It is flu that is causing the problems. Covid has almost doubled in the last week but still at a low level, flu though has risen from a high rate and quadrupled in the last week.#

Let's not get all snowflakey and start going on. This is only in hospitals and medical centres where there may be a lot of vulnerable people so hardly a reason to get all paranoid at the moment. The masks could also help to protect the staff in these areas so doesn't seem that OTT.

Over reactions like a couple of years ago are not yet justified.

K2: I'm sure you may be correct. As I listed on my post (above), one or more of the "expert", ("authorities") will during a "spike" employ political graphics to support it. V

Hmm yes, but i see a similar pattern emerging don't you?

It was only 2 weeks to flatten the curve.

It was only in medical centres to begin with.

Then it was only shops.

Then it was everywhere, even walking down the street on your own.

Forgive me for my suspicious and sceptical mind.

K2,Agree in the entirety of your post. Correct usage in its employ may assist. The misuse, may actually hinder via complacent attitude ( eg: avoidance common sense, travel, personal contact etc). V2 x
