They'll be fine. You have 5 years in which to learn Spanish before you come here to live.

Rules change all the time but generally you should visit the school before the end of the previous term and hand in the paperwork. You'll be coming over to find a property before that so speak to local parents in the area in which you settle and they'll help you, as will the Town Hall or the agen...

...t you buy property from. State schools are area based so you don't really pick the one you want unless you choose private education.

Thank you for your reply, yes we are going to get them a Spanish tutor over here before we actually move,I definitely wouldn’t just throw them in the deep end with it.

And we are doing several visits in the next few years :)

Hi all,me and my family are saving up to make our move in January 2026,I know a little while away yet but we will have children aged 5 and 8 when we do move,we would love to put them into a Spanish school and I have researched one to rojales.

Can anyone tell me about school waiting lists and how far in advance I would have to register my interest to the school and how I go about it,any advice will be extremely appreciated....

...

Thanks Jayne.

Hi Jayne we moved to Spain and our children then age 6 and 10 years old .They picked up the language very well, English children seem to stick together!!! I don’t know why ,they also went to the junior school in rojales.I’m going to be honest I would not send them there if you could help it. There education will suffer, why not move from where you are and perhaps visit that part of Spain a lot first and talk to other parents

Thank you for your message,we was looking to move to Cuidad Quesada area so the rojales school I think was the closest. My partner drives so I suppose the distance of school won’t be to much of a problem but we will need to fit it in around working,What area are you in? And did you find a good school?

I hope you don’t mind me asking

Thank you in advance :)

Hi we live in quesada and there is a school bus the children go on but I wouldn’t recommend that school but then again it might be better as that was about 18years ago so it might be alright now,are you planning to visit a few times first ?

The sooner they can learn Spanish the better as they will not learn anything until then ,my daughter started  just before her 6th birthday, she only stayed there for 2years and we brought her back due to a lot of things going on at that school and when she was back in England and in school she was classed as special needs due to her lack of understanding English, keep that in mind but talking to her now she loved the experience.good luck

Hi Jayne, Ignore all these negative comments about Spanish education. I have said these several times. My son came here at 8 in year 4 he learnt the language in about 8 months. All the non Spanish speaking children have beginners Spanish lessons in school and I followed that with Private Spanish tutor at home to help him with Grammar.

The standard of work was high, with frequent home work and exams. His maths and Science lessons where of a high standard. The only thing that suffered was English and that was expected but that was covered at home by my wife and I.

He was at the top of his class after the first year. He went to CEIP Los Dolses, Calle Nicolás de Bussi, Dehesa de Campoamor. There were People who told me the school is bad , all sorts of terrible comments, which I later saw for my self that the school did not deserve. My son did exceptionally well in that school.

He is now in a top Grammar school for boys in U.K.  If you bring your child or children to Spain and you spend your time sitting in the sun or bars, then expect them to struggle. You will have to spend time with them teaching them at home so that they can be confident in class.  This is some thing you would do in the U.K. if you want your child or children to do well. They will make friend initially with other English speaking kids then eventually with Spanish speaking kids.

My son started Grammar school this September. He sat and Pass the grammar school entrance examination. I really wish people would stop this nonsense of running down Spanish schools. Parents have a duty to support their kids in school, it is not just the schools responsibility to educate your child.

I am glad, I sent him to the State school and not Private school as my wife and I had initially Planned because of all these negative comments.

If you will not have time to support them, I suggest you think twice about bringing them. Sending them to Private school is not the answer because you will still have to Provide the educational support at home.

Your children will benefit from a different cultural exposure among other things, so go for it.
