I have a green residency card and a current EHIC card although it is not required.
Yes I obviously have been getting my 6 monthly SIP on the strength of my S1 and EHIC and the padron.
I was told that the Padron should be renewed every three months? So confused.com right now but I will get it sorted this coming week.

Lets make it simple:
As said in previous posts, you must go to INSS with the S1. If you look at the S1, that's what it tells you to do. After that you will be given a document entitling you to a permanent SIP.
Pre-Brexit, a padrón last for five years, and after that it lasts for two years. You only need a currently dated copy of the padrón if you need one for some bureaucratic procedure. If you don't need one, then you're wasting your time 'renewing' every three months.

I was on here a few days ago and it was most helpful. I have but one more question which might be easier than phone the Social Security Dept in Torrevieja. I did try but was waiting and waiting.
My question is. It required to make an appointment to get the paperwork for a permanent SIP or does one just turn ?

INSS prefer you to make an appointment, although most Spanish just turn up and wait their turn. As far as I can tell, the link is:
