Hi

I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion regarding best efficiency heating system that can save on heating costs these days.

Our Electricity bill just now was the highest ever. We have use electric radioters and AC and are very careful in our use, but still got a tremandes bill.

Your input will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Heating the house by those means will give you extremely high electricity bills. Cheapest way in my opinion is by using the super sir gas heaters. Calor gas bottles are about €18 full and last for ages (unless you have it on full constantly)

Hi Steve

Thanks for your input.

We did use this form of heating in the past but we found out that they create condensation and smell in the house.

David

Never known butane to give off any smell.

Gas heaters need ventilation and lower the oxygen level. Casualties were reported frok use in small airtight rooms. I use gas and a bottle - now 30,- lastst 3+ months.

What type of property do you live in, a small or large apartment or villa? The problem with many Spanish builds is the lack of insulation so whatever heat is generated disappears quickly.
If relatively small I would recommend electric storage heaters to make use of cheaper hours and then a pellet burner for when they have cooled down. A ceiling fan uses little electricity and can redirect the warm air back down again.
If you have the head height you could install insulated panels to the ceiling and heavy curtains or thermal blinds and rugs will also help.

Hi

The issue with gas heaters and condensation is well known. However, AC units usually have a dehumidifier mode (don't they?) which operates without doing any heating(?). Has anyone tried using the two together? It would surely stop the condensation? And the AC in dehumidifier mode wouldn't use much electricity.

I'm really not too sure about this - what do people think?

Cheers

Sounds an expensive way to get a little ventilation for a super sir gas heater. Just provide a little ventilation by means of a wall vent which is easily fitted in a couple of hours and minimal cost. Job done then for future years. (Or just open a small window about a quarter of an inch, 6mm)

I'm sat in front of mine now as it's freezing outside, I've no doors or windows open and no condensation either.......

Hi Steve

A quick Google search suggests that a dehumidifier draws around 300 watts, which doesn't sound too bad to me. I don't know how that compares to the heat loss from a vent or leaving your window open!

I said window open a quarter of an inch, so don't exaggerate 🙄

In the end its up to the OP , all I know is I have been using my super sir every day through the coldest period I've known it without any particular ventilation and not had condensation problems. It costs me about €18 for about 3 weeks heating
