Covid Vaccination second dose time?

Hi,

Throughout the whole of last year I tried to get the Covid vaccine in San Miguel but was refused 4 times by the medical centre, eventually in early December they folded and I received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, I was told that I would get a call for the second dose, that was 7 weeks ago. I have asked at the medical centre but was told to wait for a phone call. I am worried as I do not think the gap should be this long and also I cannot get a Covid passport until I am fully vaccinated and have been refused access to a few places.

Does anyone know what the normal time between doses is in Spain and in particular in San Miguel?

Thanks.

Why haven’t you gone to the various walk in centres which have been set up to give people their first and second doses?

Just take your SIP card and your passport/TIE along with you.

Details  state on another thread that the walk in at the hospital is still open this week.

Should be open till 14.00 - 14.30 today, but haven’t seen the opening hours advertised yet for next week.

Thank you for your reply.

The problem is that I do not have a SIP, I am not entitled due to age and have to have private medical insurance in Spain. San Miguel gave me a temporary SIP but it only lasted a couple of weeks in order to get the first dose, that SIP has now expired so I cannot go to a walk in centre.

The medical centre told me that I will not need a valid SIP for the second dose as I am on the system, but that means that I cannot get the second dose anywhere else, I just have to wait until they give me an appointment.

I am just concerned as I read in the Spanish press that the recommended gap should only be 4 weeks for the Pfizer vaccine.

Your temporary SIP is valid for your vaccinations.

As your medical centre have rightly said, you are now on the system. The healthcare system is for all of Valencia. So you can either have a jab at the salud listed on the back of your card or attend any walk in centre.

If you do a quick search you will find a fair number of posts on here  from people issued with with temporary SIP cards and have had 2nd and 3rd jabs without having to renew their cards. Your SIP number is valid as you need the number to download your certificate.

Pfizer 1st & 2nd jabs were given 3 weeks apart, but I think everything has switched to Moderna now.

Hi jtbedford,

My husband and I also have private healthcare, as we we don't yet qualify for S1s either.  Lynn is correct, you don't need a new temporary SIP card, your number is still valid - our health centre didn't issue temporary cards at all.  Nevertheless, having had our first jab, we received texts to advise us of the appointment for our second dose, but you do need to ensure that you have a Spanish mobile number registered on your SIP record in order to receive the text.  You can check your SIP record using this link - scroll down to the bottom of the landing page to see the form you need to complete:

http://www.san.gva.es/web/dgcal/formulario-de-contacto

Our first two doses were Astra Zeneca, which were administered around 12 weeks apart last year; the gap was similar for those people who were double-jabbed with PfizerBioNtech, even though Pfizer (and the WHO) recommended only a 3-4 week gap.  We had Pfizer for our boosters, which were administered at almost 6 months after our second AZ dose.  It's the gap between second dose and booster that has been significantly reduced, but since implementation was transferred from the mass vaccination centres to individual health centres, the gap between doses doesn't seem to be such an exact science - while my husband waited 12 weeks between his original two doses, I only waited 10 weeks.  As you received your first dose 7 weeks ago, you could receive notification of your second dose in around 2-3 weeks' time, depending on which vaccine you've already had.  If you haven't heard by then, I'd suggest going back to your health centre.

Kind regards,

Kim
