Where do you get cash when the bank branches close down?

I’ll continue to write a cheque for cash.

To reiterate; I’m not dodging tax or anything else, and I keep a cash account book for transactions.

At my age (mid 50’s) I think I’ll get the rest of my days in with access to cash when needed, I shan’t be too concerned about it.

In common with most people nowadays i hardly use cash any more. Its much easier and safer having your money on a card or apple wallet. I am heading towards 70 and can recommend it to other elderly people who seem reticent to move with the times.

I would tend do disagree with your comment that most people use card or Apple pay, the majority use cash or card, cash for smaller purchases card for weekly shop or bigger purchases, Apple wallet / pay  (or shall we just say Mobile pay) is far less common and having stood behind many that use a mobile to pay a good percentage seem to have problems.

I also am approaching 70, i have ZERO problems using tech but i will never keep money on my phone, safest way is still cash for very small amounts and card for everything else though its quite obvious where we are headed.

That said i have no issues with people that want to pay with their phone, hopefully those that do will not mind me using cash when i choose to.

Hi RonTT

Your money is not "on your phone" and neither is it on your card. Both are simply  means to connect to your bank account, like a cashier at a branch of your bank.

When I pay using my phone, it is using the same card as my bank provided. However, if the physical card is stolen it can still be used for contactless transactions, whereas if my phone was stolen the thief would need my fingerprint or PIN. In the meantime I could use my physical card to buy a new phone!

If I had cash stolen its gone forever!

So which is more secure?

Cheers

Steve

Your question,  So which is more secure?, Answer = card and cash, though that is not what the thread is about,

But what you have forgotten, Steve, is the alleged secret Government control system implicit in the usage of cards and phones……

Half right card and and apple wallet are the most secure having end to end encryption preventing thefts.

First  I  am not  well  up on the progression  of  Phone  payments,  I am a  good bit  down queue  when  thes  type  of Transaction  takes  place.  .  I  do  not  think  it would  take  a genius  to open my Smart  phone. It  is  one reason  I  will NOT partake  in these  Transaction.  Again for  me

Cash is King 🤴 🙌

Yep, specifically Apple phones as he and others seem hung up on apple wallet, entirely forgets (or maybe does not realise)  Apple accounts for 28% of the phones on the market while Google accounts for 70 %.

Pray tell what does he do when there is no signal or the wifi is out or his battery is flat.

The 40 or 50 euro in my pocket is quite safe and there when needed.
