Hi, i have read posts saying people have bought these stickers but as far as i can see the areas of Torrevieja that will require these stickers has not been announced yet, my question is, are these actually required right now and ifso how do i know if i am driving in a zone where they are required.

I got mine online at DGT. I think they come into force 1st Jan 2024 but I could be wrong. Needed to enter all towns over 50,000 population.

You will know you were in an active emission zone when you receive the fine notice. Number plate recognition cameras and tiny, almost too small to be seen, notices. Money maker.

It became legal on 1st Jan 2023 but the municipalities have until the end of the year to put it in place.
So that’s why different areas are coming on board with the regulations at different times.
With the huge amount of construction in Torrevieja going on at present, due to the expansion of the port area, I should imagine that the Ayuntamiento are waiting till the very last minute to enforce it.
But as you can see from this they haven’t even decided on the area yet. It also explains the signage etc.
Also people keep mentioning Torrevieja, but there are lots of other municipalities you will need the stickers for. Alicante, Elche, Benidorm, Orihuela, Murcia and Cartagena all have populations over 50k
