My Son is coming for a holiday soon and would like to do some metal detecting.

Does anyone know what rules and regulations he might need to observe? He's thinking of trying his luck on beaches.

Thx for any help.

Norman

Thx Pete,

It looks as though you might have gone a bit overboard with that but thx for the reply anyway, he's still looking into it and has a couple of months to decide before he comes over.

I find the idea interesting though and might have a look into it myself as a pensioner with more time that sense and needing an excuse to get out of bed, if anyone knows of any metal detecting clubs in the La Marina area please let me know.

Regards,

Norman

Licenses are available from Valencian  authorities  , valid for 6mths , BUT  it takes up to  4 mths to get one [ but they are free ..!!!]

.Loads  of local beaches are out of bounds for historical reasons[ locations are included with license]   .

Murcia  has yet to issue permits but will eventually , Andulicia is a big no no , large fines and confiscation of all equipment ...no ifs or buts ..!!!

Nearest club is Adapt in San Pedro but membership is capped .

Thx for the info,

Are there any beaches/places where no licence is required, just for people who wish to dabble and see what it's all about?

No  I,m afraid ,  the official line is that you can only possess a metal detector if you are a government body and have import  paperwork issued  by  Madrid , but up until a years ago very little was enforced [ apart from Andulucia ..!!] but wholesale pillaging of offshore wrecks and  historical sites by Russian and eastern Europeans and the selling of artifacts and other items brought it to the attention of the Government ….!!!

All this has been well documented in the Spanish press , so you can see why licensing was brought in to control the hobby .

They don't have to spend anything , the Guardia are quite active in checking for permits as are the local plod , give it a whirl and try arguing with them as they confiscate your gear and wack you with a large fine ….best of luck ….!!!!

Thank you for the info on the metal detecting club, especially the link. I'll pass this onto my son and see how this progresses, I assume they have nothing against anyone coming along and having a look, which would be great.
