Hello

I understand from my vet that rabies vaccine and up to date boosters and passports are valid up until 31st December. Meaning you can travel out before the rules change on 1 st January (brexit) with existing paperwork

The requirements then change to this new blood test certificate etc and can only travel after 4 months from the date of it.

So if you wish to travel in the new year you need to get this blood test ASAP.

Regards

Hello,

You've added this post to a thread that is nearly 2yrs old

I think it would be really helpful to lots of pet owners if you  put it in a new thread so everyone sees it - it's really import to know this before the end of the  withdrawal agreement at end of 2020

Cheers

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Fingers crossed I am hoping to drive down end December ish. Will have to work out and coordinate this PCR  72 hrs COVID test.
Thank you for that Tony. I will double check with the vet as I had them done a month ago. First ones were done 3 yrs ago. Dog passports won’t be valid 1st jan so if I am coming I will have to leave before and also find out if there are any travel restrictions enroute.  Nightmare.

This is correct. The simplest way around the problem of a UK £120 vet health check and rabies blood test,  is to get a new pet passport from a Spanish or EU vet with a one off blood test on page 6. The blood test we acquired before 31st Dec 2020 (Brexit day) means we are EU legal as long as the Spanish vet keeps the rabies booster up to date. A UK vet visit is no longer necessary at £120 per trip valid for 10 months)Spanish Blood test was 85 euros. If you get an EU pet passport as stated,  you do not then need to see a robbing UK vet every time you leave UK. Just get a tape worm treatment (€22) within 5 days BEFORE your crossing back to UK from a Spanish or French Vet and make sure rabies boosters are done in Spain and noted on the Spanish pet passport.

It saves a lot of hassle and repeated expense for a one off cost in Spain.

Hope this helps.

I wasn't told this by our Vet but will double check with them.  Pet Passport is all up to date with vaccinations including Rabies vaccination.  Have heard that sometimes you need a certificate following a blood test to certify that the Rabies vaccination levels are sufficiently high eno...

...ugh.  Just wanted to know if anyone has been asked for this on way through France/Spain.

If you have a Spanish  (or EU) pet passport you just need a Spanish vet to keep rabies jab up to date. Technically they could check you when entering EU from UK when really you need a one off blood test on page 6 from an EU or Spanish Vet . You only fall foul of system if an English or none EU vet does the rabies booster. Then you need a blood test and health cert before leaving UK. I have never had a check except when entering UK and that is for tapeworm tablet. Spanish vets are at least a quarter the price of UK vets with their Range Rover Vogues!
