Hi

Having paid out £160 for an animal health certificate(ahc) to travel from the UK with our dog to our property in Spain I was wondering if(as has been suggested), any 2nd home owners have applied for a Spanish EU pet passport?

I know we’ll have to have the rabies boosters done at the time of application and was wondering how long the Spanish boosters are valid for and how much did it cost? How much did the passport itself cost? How long did it take to get the passport? Any other issues, formalities to take into account?

I feel that this is the way forward as I’ve been quoted 57 euros for the passport(including the rabies jab) in France. This is far more economical than paying out £160 two to three times a year as the ahc is only valid for a single visit.

Thanks in advance

Jez

Hi Jez, we got a passport for our dog in Catral 35 euro and 24euro for rabies used it a couple of times to travel over, you just need to make sure rabies is up to date every year. It’s much cheaper to do it this way.

Hi, I moved to Spain in October 2020 with 2 cats and 2 dogs, sadly 1 of my cats went missing 6 months later. Each passport cost me £150, so £600 in total and thanks to Brexit, 2 months later they were not valid in Spain.  So, I had to get new EU ones from my local vet.  So much cheaper at 50 euros a piece including the rabies vaccine and they were done there and then, only had to wait about 10 minutes, unlike the UK which was a couple of days.  The UK rabies jab they had received before coming out here were valid for 3 years, but was not accepted here, so had to have another one which is part of the EU passport anyway.  Thankfully from this year their rabies jabs are valid again for 3 years, not that they are expensive anyway.  Vets are much cheaper here than in the UK.
