Hello! There are 4 cats (2 feral cats and 2 kittens) regularly coming to my garden from the street. I cannot feed all of them and I need help to take them away. I cannot catch them myself since I'm in a wheelchair and I live alone. Pet Doctors nearby say, bring them to us and we will sterilize them. But that's too expensive for me (100 euro for 1 cat)! Can anybody help at least by advice! Los Altos, Punta Marina

Hi,

There is a Facebook page Torrevieja Cat Adoption that do a lot to try and help with feral cats and kittens.  As this is the time of year that all shelters are struggling more than ever you may not be able to get them homed but they will probably be able to give you some advice.

Thank you for wanting to make sure they have a good start in life and helpingvto keep the population down.

Cats can very well take care on their own, they are natural hunters and will keep the rats in limits. I have over a dozen passing regularily through my property. I always put some milk for them but don't feed.

they also kill a lot of birds which help keep the insect population in check. Not to mention spread fleas, tick and other parasites thru their feces and piss.

Human milk is not very good for your illegal feline friends also. Have you ever seen a wild cat go to a cow and drink the milk or to the supermarket and purchase a liter of milk?

Many Ajuntamientos now run catch/sterilise/release programmes, it may be worth asking there.

Also, to echo Ray above, please do not give your feral cats cows milk. They lack the enzymes todigest it, although they may have an acquired taste for it. It will give them very bad stomach upsets.

You could contact Zoe Moran. She runs Happy Pets Rescue and I believe is based in La Florida.
