Yeah that's what I fear for also, they put some ridiculous fees on such things, my lawyer the same, he costs more than 3 times what it costs here, and is very slow and inconsistent, I guess we are easy money in this country, I'd like to know what Spanish people pay...

If you and the seller are both from the UK, you could see if the seller would accept payment by a banker's draft in sterling from your UK bank, which shouldn't cost much - you'd just need to agree an exchange rate. That's what we did - bankers draft to the seller and cash for the agent's fee.

Good idea, she is Russian though and I'm Danish, thanks for the idea and reply :)
On no account should you pay the money over in the estate agents or solicitors office ,it must only be do at the office of the notary when they approve the sale contract .

Have to say, this was not my experience when buying in November. Our lawyer and notary fees ( including Will) were very resonable and Sabadel Bank, at LaZenia, were extremly helpful too. I signed a Power of Attorney and left it to the Lawyer and it took all the hassle out too.

We are about to do this too and in fact on Friday and thats how I found this forum...Firstly I would like to know as an EU citizen do we not have the same rights as Spanish Nationals? We also pay large bank fees but reisdents dont I asume they are allowed to do this? We were told if we take out insurance, and are waiting to find out how much it is, our Bank cheque commission would be reduced. Currently the cost of that is 300 euros. The daily limit to do a transfer is 30,000.00 so we would have to up our limit to do the transfer on the day, which has been said is possible to do, but then the bank still may charge for this too... Any other ideas or information would be helpful. Thanks so much for all of this otherwise we would just thought we were been overcharged...

If you transfer daily under 50,000 so 49999 they won't charge for money coming into your account. I used hifx who were great got a better rate and they knew to transfer below the 50k they do this free of charge. Regarding the house insurance I told them had cheaper quote and didn't want their insurance so they matched the quote and reduced the commission on bank cheque. Hope this helps good lu
Thanks for that. We do have a cheaper quote for insurance too. You say about money coming in what if I transfer out to the lawyer 49999.00€? Do you have any idea with that? Thanks so much
Judy
Personally I wouldn't I handed the bankers draft to the owner at the notary.
