Hi Steve,

No, not that I'm aware of, but it's more convenient, especially when it comes to cash withdrawals.  We pay €15 per quarter with Sabadell, so not horrendous charges for a resident.  When I'm old enough to draw my state pension, I'm hoping they'll still be offering free banking - only 7...

... years to wait! 🙄😄

Kind regards,

Kim

They  charge me 40 a quarter

Hi Tracey,

My €15 per quarter fee is because I'm a Spanish resident.  I'm guessing your €40 per quarter fee is because you're non-resident?

Kind regards,

Kim

Do you only pay 15 per month with Sabadell. I paid 54 Euro for last quarter fees. Is this unusual

Further to above, I have opened a N26 account and plan to transfer l my direct debits to it whenever I get to Spain?

Hi Doreen

N26 is no good for a non resident as they are no longer dealing with UK residents, only consider them if resident as they will only allow Spanish residents with a Spanish primary residence to have a Spanish IBAN. As Kim(thankyou Kim) said I highly recommend Cajamar bank as a fee free account for ...

...non residents. I changed in 2019 March to Cajamar from Sabadell and have not paid 1cent in fees since. I believe the opening of the account called "weferrent" an online account, has changed since then and you can deposit an amount in a savings account or become a member with a smaller deposit to enable free banking. You have to open in branch as the white NIE is not recognised, but once you have your account, you can download their app(to phone or pc) and change language to English. Read their website, very good in English, disregard any condition as have to be resident, I have many on resident converted users. I have written many replies which you can find if you do searches in Banking which will give you more info. As you are in Torrevieja your branch will probably have an English speaker which in our branch, very Spanish area well inland no one spoke English. We used Google translate and managed with a lot of laughs along the way. Research and if you have questions pm me, but try to read some earlier replies.

Wished we,d done it 10years ago before Sabadell had charged over 2000€ fees in that time. Good luck

Regards

Pauline

I don't understand why you say it's no good for non residents. Can you not set up direct debits for Spanish  utilities. Why would you need a Spanish IBAN

A lot of entities demand a Spanish IBAN, or at least an EU IBAN. Wise offers a Belgium IBAN which is acceptable to a lot of companies. What address did you give as your primary address as I believe N26 no longer deal with UK residents. (I could be wrong but sure I read it after Brexit). If you are resident in Spain then that's OK but not OK to give Spain address if you are non resident. You could come unstuck with tax issues by stating you are resident, same with the padron, non residents should not be on it

Pauline

Hi Jpm,

I'm a Spanish resident - are you?  Residents pay lower bank fees than Non-residents.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Jpm,

You don't necessarily need a Spanish IBAN, but your bank account must have an IBAN from a country that is an EU member state, which N26 does have:

https://support.n26.com/en-eu/account-and-personal-details/personal-information-and-data/how-to-find-my-iban-or-account-number#:~:text=All%20our%20IBANs%20start%20with,button%20in%20%F0%9F%91%A4%20My%20Account.

Bank fees have become an issue for UK citizens since 1 January this year as, post-Brexit, transactions via financial institutions with UK IBANs, incur additional charges.

Kind regards,

Kim
