I guess the guy lied to me then.

But, when it comes to me transferring  monies...I will go with the cheapest

If A Place In the Sun told you that the fee was lower than Wise, he didn't lie to you, but if he told you that you'd receive more money in your account than an exchange with Wise, then he did lie.  The bottom line is what you should always check for comparison - after deduction of fees, what is the amount you will receive in your account.

Currency direct 10years no problem

Used them to buy my place due to local office. Customer service excellent. Rates not as good as Wise.

I have used them for 5 years since we moved here no issues at all and my statement last year showed I had save over £500 on charges my bank would have charged 

I tried Currency direct but the exchange rate was lower than Wise and they often took days to transfer from UK to Spain. Only used them for a short time.

I have just started the process of moving Iberdrolla, Agamed & Sumo Direct Debits to Transferwise (or Wise as they now want to be known) - easy to do on-line if you have a not of your new IBAN number.......although Agamed claimed that their system did not recognise Estonia as an EU country for the monetary transfers (suspect that's a ploy to try and keep banking within Spain).....persevered and hope to have completed all 3 by the end of this week.

......then I'll have the delight of withdrawing my dosh from Sabadell and giving their hefty fees 2 fingers!!!!

Have been transferring money for over 15 years, 50 sounds too good to be true. Its not all about the fee. I would be comparing the total cost including the exchange rate.Tread carefully.
