You do not need vpn, just get the downloader app and then filelinked , but look on you tube and it will show you everything you need.

Hi Dave

Well....I've got the Fire Stick and it's set up attached to my spare tv here in the UK.  I have downloaded Downloader and Filelinked and the home screen shows all the good tv apps like BBC iPlayer, ITV, 4 and my Amazon Prime stuff.

All of these things work here.  I've checked out several youtube videos on the subject and am not sure if I need to do anything else.  I do NOT have a VPN, as advised, so my question is this.  When I come out to Spain in a couple of weeks with the stick can I just plug it into my telly there and start watching UK programmes?

I have access to next door's wifi (with her permission) but maybe I should subscribe to a service of my own, like Telecable for example, just to make things a bit more robust.  Looking forward to seeing if this works.  Grateful for your help and any further advice about anything I may have missed.

Michael, La Siesta

Thanks for that advice Ray.  Since I first raised this topic I've had conflicting views.  Bound to happen of course!

A question about VPN and Smart DNS. Do you have to pay anything to download them, and any ongoing financial commitment involved?

I will, and thanks again.

It's been an interesting couple of days here with the new Smart tv arriving yesterday (first one I have had) and then going out to Currys this morning to get the Fire Stick.  The price came down again so I went for it.  Looks like a nice piece of kit, as is the Samsung telly of course.

Amazed at the difference in tv sound and pictures.  I thought our old LG one (non-Smart) was fine until I saw what is possible with a Smart one.  It's less than we paid six years ago for the old one as well!

Hello again Dave,

I arrived at my La Siesta house on Monday and have had time today to set up the Amazon Fire stick using yours and others advice.  I haven’t bothered with VPN or SmartDNS but I have got MOBDRO working nicely.  When I go to channels all the UK ones I want are there, including Sky movies and sports.  All therefore seems good although the quality of picture is not great.  On sports for example there is a slight judder in the action.  My tv was inherited from the previous owners so maybe a newer smart tv would improve that?

If you can offer any other tips they would be much appreciated but looking good so far.  I am thinking of reconnecting to Telecable - previous owners had it.  Maybe that will give me better streaming speeds than I have currently where I am piggy backing off next doors WiFi connection, with her permission of course.

Michael
