Hi

We have just moved into a new apartment block.

There are a number of satellite dishes already supplied in the complex. We have been advised that we can connect to Astra 2 and received uk channels. The developers told us we just need a decoder.
We have purchased a smart tv

We have been to a number of shops who have sold us various leads, non of which connect. They say we don’t need a box.

Can someone advise what we need to purchase. Is a decoder a seperate box that attaches to the television and socket

Best wishes

Neal

Very few TV's are pure Android and it may well be that only certain apps can be installed on them, Samsung with its Tizen system is one.

Also not all Smart TV's will be equipped with a satellite tuner which is what's required to connect directly to a dish.

If you post the make and model of your TV we can advise further.

Hi

Unfortunately it’s a basic LG TV. The advisor told us it would connect to the satelite.

Many thanks for your help

I'm no TV expert but my best suggestion is to get hold of a Freesat box.  I have one and it gets me all the channels I am likely to watch.
I sent directly to Freesat for it and it cost about £100, but that was a while ago. Remember that if you send to the UK you will have to pay an import duty of some variable amount depending on how they feel at the time, so try and get someone to bring one out for you.

All depends on the nature of the communal system. if a freesat box will work or not.

IF the UK TV satellite signal is distributed using Disecq switching, then a freesat box will only work if the UK TV satellites are on Disecq 1.

But if using a TV with built in satellite receiver, then it should be a case of working out which disecq setting the system is using.

(Smart TVs are not as "smart" as people think. In fact one TV retailer said to me what i consider to be the best quote for such TVS "a smart tv is only as smart as the user"! Basicall "smart tv" simply means the TV can connect to the internet. It is up to the user what it does beyond that)

If the system is a SMATV system, then it will be distributed differently to what a Freesat box uses.

Advise is to speak to system owners, or even neighbours, to see what is needed
