Incidentally I spoke with Three this morning, and said that they should end my contract now as I will not be returning to the UK in at least the next 12 months.

They said they will extend my contract for another two months,so that the issue can be resolved. I want it resolved by them ending my contract.

So are they effectively making me break their own fair use policy to get two more months rental money from me?

Or am I being very cynical of them?

Any attempt to end contracts is always difficult in my opinion

I have kept my UK number but moved to Lebara to keep all my ID things.  I also have a Lobster sim for my spanish number.  Good thing about Lobster is you can park your number when you are back in the UK and not have to pay for it.

One thing to think about is that some of the UK mobile companies are going to start charging for data roaming from January 2022....

...

Hi Janet,

Europe -wide roaming will stop from January 2022 for people who took out new phone contracts from August 2021. If you had a contract before then, you will still get free roaming.

Thanks @Nick

I have had a contract with Virgin for about 15 years. Your reply persuades me to contact them to check. Very helpful

Hi robB

My husband and I have been using virgin SIM cards here in Spain for last 15 months and have only just been advised we need to update our sim to continue with roaming so you shouldn’t have any issues for a few months!

For info,

I bought my new sim today.  My husband needs only 5€ as does Mellor7, and that just gives calls and sms, and needs renewing every six months.  Orange notified him that the six months was up.

For myself I’ve bought a sim which also allows roaming and internet at a cost of minimum 10€/month, which seems to compare well with the other operators.  It’s useful to have the internet option for when the family calls when we’re out and about.
The sim can also be used in UK for about two months.

On the news today 3 is joining EE and vodafone in introducing £2 daily roaming charges, despite earlier assurances they had no plans to do this.

Hi

Can you give more details on both the plans you’ve purchased, are they both with Orange?

Does your 10€ per month deal include roaming to the U.K.

Yes, both with Orange, I was assured by the salesman that I can use in the U.K. for up to a couple of months.

This is the message I received after installing my new sim

Bienvenido a GO Walk!

When I tried to make a phone call using home WiFi, as I used to with my previous U.K. sim, I received a notification that I need to contact Orange to authorise this, but with 5000minutes of call included, this shouldn’t really become a problem.

My husband has no internet or roaming, just calls and sms, which will reduce his balance  he only really uses the phone for incoming calls from eg the health centre, and as a Spanish contact number  when requested.  His €5 lasts for six months and any unused credit rolls on.  Hope this answers your questions, regards

E.

Great thank you, I see the plan only covers roaming in the EU, So it looks as though the 15€ tariff would be a good bet so I can use it further afield
